“Reality”

This is that same old once upon a time
it just has a different, brand new title,
the same old characters just with new names,
with an ending that in time will be clear.
The big wolf is still waiting in the woods
for the innocent little girl in red.
The princess still needs a kiss from the prince
to wake her from the evil witch’s spell.
But what happens in harsh reality
where no one writes you safely down the path,
where your happy end isn’t a sure thing,
where the good ones don’t always get to win.
Because in reality it’s likely,
the wolf is going to get what he wants,
that the girl with snowy skin won’t make it,
that tears will fall from undeserving eyes.
ALL because reality is a cruel tale
with an old writer who has no mercy,
and no tenderness for his characters.
This writer puts children in place of men
to fend off dark souls, that men could not face.
Where he expects them to come to the end
alive, and also no longer frightened
When men would get down on their knees and beg.
While this fight could be stopped by the others,
it often isn’t because they are scared.
So I ask you a few simple questions,
Do you just give the big wolf the basket?
Do you submit to the old wicked witch?
Or do you throw that old fairy book out,
and tell the old writer to stop writing.
Tell him you are not his marionette.
To leave your character to your own words.
That you will rightfully pull your own strings,
And take your ever after in your hands.
I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment...

Yet another thing for creative writing... bloody blank verse in iambic pentameter...

As for the subject matter I've had slight obsession with little red riding hood because of a movie called Jin Roh (you should check it out) and it kind of spawned from that and other fairytales...

Oh and if you have a better idea for a category to stick this in I'll gladly change it.
